Health policy activities: the nwhn influences policy by developing recommendations and catalyzing grassroots action. Our main issues are the safety of drugs, devices and medical procedures; reproductive health; and access to care that meets the needs of women in all their diversities. Recent accomplishments include 63 million women obtaining contraceptive coverage with no extra fees; saving the fda office of women's health from threatened defunding; and the drop in the number of women who develop heart attacks and breast cancer. In addition, the nwhn sponsors projects on issues in keeping with its mission. Sponsored project (expenses $534,881) provided on-line information to 25,000 people/month about the safety and accessibility of medical abortions and answered thousands of hotline callers' questions about miscarriage and abortion.
